Hello and a big welcome back!
Now that the first week of band has passed, I just want to touch base about what we have been working on in class and what we are looking to do next week! Grade 5: Our headstart clinic this week was very successful! Thank you to everyone who came and was putting in their best efforts. Students were excited to come to class on Wednesday and show what they had learned. I hope we can continue this excitement moving forward. Over the next week, we are going to be working on our posture, our breathing, and different techniques we can all use to become better musicians and better practicers. Grade 6: We have begun working on our scales starting with the concert F scale. Recordings have been made available on this website for each instrument to practice with! Just go into the Grade 5 tab under "Warm-ups". There is a link for each individual instrument that leads to video that demonstrates and plays the F concert scale. They only need to know the first 5 notes going up. They will have a chance to show their talents on this scale to the class on Thursday, September 20th. JH: We are small, but we are mighty! 10 students in total will lead to an intimate but awesome year! We have started working on the concert Bb major scale and the concert F major scale. Recordings have been made available on this website for each instrument to practice with! You can find them under the "Warm-ups" tab in the JH Band section. They will have a chance to show their talents on this scale to the class on Wednesday, September 19th. For anyone renting an instrument, rental fees will be payable through SchoolCashOnline hopefully within the next 24 hours. The fee for the year is $65.00. This fee covers the use of the instrument for the year, cleaning cloths, 2 reeds, valve oil, cork grease, or slide oil; depending on what your instrument requires. It will also cover any repairs that may need to happen. A reminder to students: your first practice sheet of the year is due by the end of day Thursday, September 20th. Thanks everyone and enjoy your weekend! Mrs. B

Hello everyone and welcome back to another year at St. Joseph School! I am absolutely thrilled to be back for another year at St. Joe's. We have lots of things planned for the students this year, so it should be exciting! A big welcome back to the grade 5's who are doing their first year of band! In the first few weeks back, students will be doing review of methods and theory studied last year.
Grade 5's are headed off to headstart band camp on Monday September 10th and Wednesday September 12th from 5:00-6:30pm at R.I. Baker. Students will be expected to bring their instrument and music folder with them to the school. For reed instruments, the first 2 reeds are provided, the student can purchase other reeds from either Long and McQuade in Lethbridge, or from me as needed throughout the year. I look forward to a great year and will soon update on Band Camps for the JH and grade 6 bands. Mrs. Bettenson Mrs. Christie will be absent for a while, so I thought I should introduce myself! My name is Mrs. Bettenson and I will be in for Mrs. Christie until she returns. I am absolutely thrilled to be helping with the Christmas concert and joining each grade in the classroom. I have an extensive background in music and studied singing at the UofL. I also play flute, piccolo, piano, ukulele, and other classroom instruments like the xylophone. I have knowledge of how to play brass instruments, but have never tried myself! I look forward to our beginner guitar class and helping them develop skills on their guitars!
I look forward to working with the students and seeing all parents at the Christmas concert on Decmeber 14th! -Mrs. Bettenson :) On behalf of the Junior High Band, I would like to thank you for supporting our Mixing Spoon fundraiser! We raised $850 for our SABC trip in a few weeks! Thanks again!
